Scarface House in Montecito: Selling Price Reduced Significantly

Scarface houseIn a previous blog, “House From Scarface Hits the Market In Montecito,” I shared how $35M could buy you one of the area’s most celebrated residences: the Scarface house. Now you can purchase the mansion, one of only five houses designed by renowned American architect Bertram Goodhue, at a deep discount: $17.9M, which is a 49% price drop. That’s quite a good deal for El Fureidis (”Tropical Paradise, “Little Paradise” or “Pleasure Gardens”), one of Montecito’s most magnificent and historic properties.
The timeless estate sits on 10 private acres, located at 631 Parra Grande Lane. Since the movie, the mansion has undergone expensive and elaborate remodeling with an eye for detail, including ornate moldings and gold leaf ceiling details. The property offers numerous reflecting pools, lush gardens, and storied provenance with many rooms opening toward the manicured gardens, terraces, patios, balconies, decks and pools.
With 10,000 square feet of living space, the magnificent estate features 4-bedrooms and 4-baths. Rich in history, it was built in 1906 and was known as the James Waldron Gillespie Estate or Gillespie Palace after its original owner. Featuring Roman, Persian, Arabic and Spanish-styled architecture, the property appeared in numerous hand-colored Santa Barbara picture post cards during the 1900s–1950s that highlighted Montecito’s estates, as well as the classical Persian gardens and Goodhue’s unique architecture.
El Fureidis is also famous for its rare palm trees that can also be found at the “Happiest Place on Earth,” in Disneyland’s Adventureland and Jungle Cruise ride. It was the location for Tony
Montana’s Coral Gables mansion in the 1983 film Scarface.
The El Fureidis estate was last on the market in 2006 for $37,500,000.
