According to Mara Roszak, think cozy bungalow with casual, earthy and classic style, layering signature design pieces with clean lines, warm textiles and luxe details. Roszak knows what’s she’s talking about. Besides her position as a consulting celebrity hairstylist for L’Oreal Paris, her clients at the recent Oscar Ceremony included Emma Stone and Zoe Saldana.
“My style is kind of eclectic. It’s sort of evolved into what it is today: a mix of midcentury with leather and wood and some classic lines, plus more modern elements,” says Roszak. “I’ve always loved vintage textiles and earthy elements, like weathered iron with marble.”
Roszak decorated her entire living and dining room around an armchair from the Danish midcentury design master Hans Wegner. She paired the midcentury-inspired chair with a casual slipcovered sofa, dark iron and glass tables, and aged leather armchairs, with gallery shelving filled with books, storage baskets and some of her favorite things.armchair from the Danish midcentury design master Hans Wegner
She suggests adding a bit of Spanish spirit. In her home, a simple archway separates the dining room from the living room. Her dining room table is made from reclaimed-wood with bench seating. Of course, adding fresh flowers is a must.
In her kitchen and bathroom, the celebrity stylist uses Carrara marble, saying, “I do love a clean kitchen. Our walls are white, and it felt light and bright, like California.” Matte black walls in the bath frame the classic white claw-foot tub and chrome fixtures. There’s a floor-to-ceiling shelving unit with more designer woven baskets to hide hair appliances, products and toiletries.
According to Roszak, details like pictures, vases, pillows and unusual finds can really make a home feel warm, inviting and personal. In her bedroom she uses a natural linen, white and brown color scheme that’s so popular today.
