According to a story in the Wall Street Journal, homeowners today are integrating a playground staple inside their houses by adding a slide. Would you consider adding a slide inside your home?

According to the article, although building a slide inside your home is brazenly impractical, builders and architects say a handful of determined luxury homeowners have successfully installed slides inside their own estates.

Bringing slides indoors is not common enough to call a trend that’s sweeping the nation, but the idea is definitely spreading. From taking center stage in swanky Manhattan penthouses to providing a fun secret way to get from the laundry room to the basement in Minnesota, these playground pieces are anything but child’s play.

A professional poker player built this slide for his bachelor pad in New York City’s East Village. It received tons of media coverage online, in magazines and was also featured on TV. I saw it on one of those high-end real estate shows. However, the slide’s projected effect on resale value caused some major drama leading the current owner to remove the slide last year because it took up too much space in the living room. The owner had put the unit on the market but later decided to keep it after doing renovations and removing the slide.
