We all must learn to embrace imperfection for a calm, heartfelt Thanksgiving. These 10 tips should take the stress out of your Thanksgiving. Now that’s something to be grateful for.
1. Let go of perfection.
Forget about those expectations that are too high. Instead, embrace what Thanksgiving means to you.
2. Set a simple table (and set it early).
Give yourself permission to set a basic table and do that early (like tonight).
3. Prepare as much as possible ahead of time.
Ready-to-serve food in the fridge is like money in the bank on special holidays like Thanksgiving.
4. Enjoy a moment to yourself before guests arrive.
When you are relaxed and happy, your guests will be, too! Take a moment to reflect on what makes you happy before your guests arrive.
5. Set up a drinks station outside the kitchen.
Allow your guests to pour their own drinks.
6. Stick with easy appetizers.
Be sure to keep the apps out of the kitchen!
7. Take mindful breaks throughout the day.
8. Pick your favorite cooking tasks and accept help for the rest.
People like to help, especially on Thanksgiving. Allow them to do so!
9. Get folks out of the house while the turkey cooks.
The aroma of the turkey cooking can make people antsy. Take advantage of the beautiful weather we have here in Santa Barbara and send your guests outside.
10. Pause before digging in.
Say a special prayer or poem, or go around the table and have everyone say what they are thankful for before you begin eating.
