Are you wondering about the 2016 interior design trends? According to a story in Realty Times, the interior design trends for 2016 call for more inspiration and less direction. Leading interior designers say to expect an even wider range of options this year featuring glass, metals, and painted finishes.
Here’s what that looks like:
French Country
Has the French country design motif ever gone out of style? The answer is NO! In fact, this design style is even more popular today thanks to shows like HGTV’s popular “Fixer Upper.” Think waxed and weathered paint on furniture with all types of accessories to create a rich, eclectic look.
Pastel Colors
In a recent blog, I share with you Pantone’s dual Colors of the Year for 2016— baby pink Rose Quartz and baby blue Serenity. Based on these choices, we will see pastels everywhere in the coming year, from wall color to upholstery to accessories.
The “Glamily” Room
It’s time to Glam Up your family room! The “Glamily” room is one of my favorite new words (glamily) from the latest issue of House Beautiful. I whole-heartily support glamorous rooms for the family. Quality, functional furniture. Beautiful, durable fabrics/leathers. Pretty, practical flooring and rugs.
Metal Mania
For several years now, we have seen the use of metals in home interiors (from silver to gold to pewter to copper to rose gold). In 2016, the use of platinum, gold, copper, and steel is one of the hottest trends, as long as they have a metallic sheen.
Pretty Pendants
For interior lighting trends, homeowners are embracing pendants in all shapes, sizes, materials, and price points. The move is away from the chandeliers of the past and into a design element that can create a bit of drama and glam while lighting up a room.
Organic Shapes and Textures
“From dinnerware to furniture, undefined shapes and natural textures are making an appearance everywhere right into the year 2016,” said The Ace of Space.
Artisan Goods
“From tassels and basketry to macramé and crochet, weaving is in,” said interior designer Macala Wright. “To embrace this trend, lifestyle expert Justina Blakeney advises consumers to be inspired by local finds. LG Studio artistic advisor Nate Berkus encourages shoppers to buy locally made and globally crafted goods. Berkus also states that consumers should not be afraid to mix vintage and artisanal items with mass produced goods. Pair a Mongolian lambskin pouf and Moroccan rug next to a Target coffee table, for example.”
