- Pre-WWII. These homes can be Victorians including California Missions, Greek Revivals and Tudors. Actually just about any home built with Old-World style with frame and wood exteriors covered in stucco, brick or stone fits in this category. I love homes built in their period because of their charm and character.
- Mid-Century Homes. Homes built between 1945 and 1965 fit into this category. Think sleek ’50’s homes with modern architecture such as those built by Frank Lloyd Wright and real estate developer Joseph Eichler. Many of these mid-century homes have flat or shallow-pitched roofs, geometric shapes and triangular windows, cantilevered construction and open floor plans.
- Mediterranean. That one word embodies Santa Barbara architecture. Incorporating Spanish or Italian details, Mediterranean homes have stucco exteriors, tile roofs and are mostly multiple levels. With grand entrances and archways throughout, I LOVE the rounded corners and columns that can make a real statement, along with the lovely Travertine floors and dramatic staircases in these homes. Many were constructed in the 1920 but copying this type of architecture has been popular among builders since the beginning of 2000.
