Romantic Rooms to Fall In Love In, Not With

When considering creating romantic rooms, many designers surprisingly think comfort and safety, creating a space to fall in love in, not with. The Wall Street Journal interviewed five luxury home designers to share their favorite luscious spaces, and offer pro tips to make couples want to spend date night at home. Here are my three favorite rooms that I believe really set the stay for love that are featured in the article titled “Romantic Rooms Set The Mood.”
romantic dining roomAccording to New York-based designer Bunny Williams, owner of Bunny Williams Home, it’s lighting, music, and good smells (think things that stimulate the senses), that make a room romantic. She also says romance is in the details, especially in the accessories, like soft cushions and banquettes.
Design aphrodisiacs:

    • Pewter silver-leaf tea paper from Donghia
    • Antique English mahogany sideboard
    • Hand-painted Chinoiserie details on the walls
    • A marbleized wooden mantle hand-painted by John Weidl Associates

romantic bedroom
Designer Jeffrey Bilhuber, owner of New York-based Bilhuber & Associates, says romance can also mean drama.
Design aphrodisiacs:
• Custom-lacquered, high-gloss deep-gray walls
• Bed with crocodile-patterned, embossed calfskin
• Peach-colored mirror that reflects and refracts the walls and view of the Hudson River
• Curtains with a subtle cellophane Lurex thread that shines
romantic bathroom
Designer Erin Martin, owner of Erin Martin Design went with raw, naked and free when she created the master bathroom of her client’s three-bedroom, four-bath newly constructed farmhouse. The entire home is both exposed and warm, with a 9-foot-square window looking out to the home’s expansive yard.
Design aphrodisiacs:
• Walls slathered in alternating strips of rough and shiny plaster
• Polished concrete floors
• Two-person Amor tub
• Recessed cubby for stacking towels
