“It’s like gray and brown had a baby,” is how Sue Wadden, the director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams explains the 2017 color of the year: Poised Taupe. She was recently on the Today Show sharing how to get a head start on next year’s trends.
“Earthen brown combines with conservative grey and the result is a weathered, woodsy and complex neutral that celebrates the imperfections and authenticity of a well-lived life,” is how the company explains the color. It’s cozy and creates a sense of coziness and warmth. Think the soft glow of candlelight, a toasty drink, or the company of family and friends, all on trend for the coming year.
The hue is a modern take on a timeless classic: “It signals a new direction in society’s ever-growing thirst for beautiful neutrals that bring warm and cool tones together to create one irresistibly versatile color. Neutrals are shifting,” Wadden says. “For five years everybody’s talking about gray ? well, they’re warming up.”
This neutral color is a deeper hue than the soft beiges and greys of the recent past. It goes with everything.
