Homeowners: Now is The Time to Get Ready For Holiday Visitors!

Young people gather together for Christmas dinner to show holiday visitorsYou know that extended family and friends will be descending on your home this November and December so now is the time to get ready for holiday visitors. I just read this article in Realty Times with ideas and ways to get your home holiday-ready:

1) Does your kitchen look cheftastic?
We all know the kitchen is the heart of your home. It’s the place your holiday guests will BE congregating. Does your kitchen reflect your style? If the answer is no, get in touch with your interior designer a.s.a.p.! You can select, order, and have new countertops installed, cabinets painted and new hardware added in a matter of a few weeks.

2) Replace or repair appliances
Consider the function of your kitchen. Is it time for a double oven or a new refrigerator? Or perhaps you need a new smart dishwasher? Maybe it’s time to update your washer and dryer. Use this pre-holiday season as the time to inspire you and make necessary upgrades.

3) Consider your cookware
I love upgrading my cookware, cooking utensils, glassware, and silverware. The holiday season is a good time to replace the items you use to prepare, serve, and eat food during the holidays.

4) Does your living room need a redo?
If you haven’t updated your living room in awhile, this is the perfect time to do so. Get rid of clunky built-ins or that large armoire housing your outdated TV. Ask your designer for ideas on ways to update your living room; from turning your fireplace into a focal point for you and your guests, to adding plush throw pillows for that splash of color.

5) New bedding can create new guestrooms
Just changing the bedding in your guest room can make a world of difference. Think new sheets and comforters, and don’t forget new pillows. A fresh coat of paint in a neutral color can give any room a calming effect and make your guests feel like they have stepped into a 5-star resort.

6) Address the best room of the house – your backyard
We are lucky to live here in Santa Barbara where the weather allows outdoor enjoyment all year long. Buy new patio furniture, add a firepit, light your backyard with special twinkle lights or even install a beautiful chandelier. The bottom line, make sure your backyard is as inviting as your kitchen!

7) Do your guest bathrooms need updating?
Are your guest bathrooms in need of some attention? Consider changing out the showerhead, faucets and lighting, or add new hardware and complete with fresh towels and bath mats. While you’re at it, why not and add a fresh coat of paint using the 2017 color of the year?

8) Consider everything else
I suggest you take a complete walkthrough of your home: running all the baths, sinks, and showers; turning on all the lights and TVs; sitting on the beds, couches, and chairs; opening closets; and fixing nicks and scratches on walls, doors, and baseboards. Now you’re ready to welcome friends and family to celebrate the holidays!
