How developers are courting pet loving home hunters

Where a Dog’s Life Means Luxury Living, Developers offer high-end amenities for animal lovers: rooftop dog walks, ‘pawdicures’ and ‘yappy hour’,” examines how more luxury buildings around the nation are boosting their amenities for family pets. In fact, high-end developments in major cities are offering everything a dog could want from lavish hangouts for furry family members to rooftop dog parks and doggy club rooms complete with canine swimming pools.

“We felt that it needed to be someplace that you feel comfortable bringing your pet,” says Richard Lake, a founding partner of Roadside Development, of his company’s City Market at O in Washington, D.C., which offers a rooftop dog run.

Dog-friendly services don’t stop there. Of course, many new developments offer pet walking and grooming services but some high-end properties go as far as offering doggie spa treatments and pet fitness classes.

“It’s been a big draw,” says Emily Moreland, of Moreland Properties, which is marketing the Austonian, a 56-story condo building in Austin, Texas. Moreland lives in the development with her 11-year-old border collie, Sugar.

In another Wall Street Journal article, “The Dog Days of Summer: Luxury Homes Featuring Four-Legged Friends,” the nation’s top newspaper kicks off summer with a look at dogs lounging in high-end properties around the globe. Check out the amazing photos of pooches living the luxury life. In the coming weeks, the paper is expanding its collection of precious pooches in high-end homes on Pinterest,  WSJ Dogs of Mansion board. Your dog could be featured! Just post a dog-related real-estate shot, on Pinterest or Twitter, using the hashtag #dogsofwsj.
