Song Celebrates the Meaning of Christmas
Santa Barbara is one of the few cities that can boast its own Christmas song: “It’s Christmas Once Again in Santa Barbara.” The classic song was originally written for a special Holiday CD featuring Christmas songs performed by local musicians to raise money for The Unity Shoppe, an organization that helps our residents in need. The Unity Shoppe Helps Those In Need
The Unity Shoppe’s mission is to prevent homelessness and welfare dependency by providing those in need with shelter, food, and clothing. Charity supporters believe that by supplementing these basic necessities, people have the ability to pay their rent and utilities. Then, they are able to move their lives forward.
The Unity Shoppe also teaches volunteers office and computer skills, merchandising, inventory control and customer relations as it prepares people for future job opportunities. More than 22,000 people are referred yearly by more than 300 non-profit agencies, churches, school, and hospitals. By providing a central distribution facility available to all non-profits they can eliminate duplication and save countless dollars. This makes it possible to help more people with better and more consistent support services.
Unity Shoppe operates a year-round “Free” grocery and clothing store so people can shop with dignity for their basic needs. Over 1,700 volunteers help a small staff of 15. More than $2 Million in merchandise is distributed annually.
