A Bit of Goleta History
Originally home to a large Native American village, Goleta was visited by European explorers beginning in the 16th century. The community began its modern-day history as a center for agriculture and vast ranches, saw a period of oil and gas production, then served as the location of a military airfield during wartime. That airfield has evolved into the current Santa Barbara Municipal Airport.
