Santa Barbara Contractor Creates the Ultimate Cat Playground in His Home

I just love pets, especially those that have been rescued. So when I learned about a local man who has turned his home into the ultimate cat playground for rescued felines, my heart just melted.
It all began when Santa Barbara homebuilder Peter Cohen, founder and co-owner of Trillium Enterprises, bought his Goleta home and inherited two outside cats. After losing one, he brought the other cat inside and started rescuing more local kitties. Before he knew it, he was living with well over a dozen cats (the number is always fluctuating).
He quickly figured out that he needed to keep his multiple cats occupied in order to live in peace. That led him to begin designing and constructing elaborate catwalks, tunnels, platforms and perches throughout his house, plus he created specially designed closets with exhaust fans to keep litter-box odors at bay. He also has five Roomba robot vacuum cleaners to keep the floors clean from cat hair. To date, Cohen has spent more than $40,000 on his rescue cats, not including the food and vet bills. This is one house you’ve got to see to believe. 
Plants, animals, playful colors, and every electronic gadget you can think of have been incorporated into every aspect of this home. From the underwater camera in the Koi pond, to the built-in catwalks and fully integrated appliances, this home meets every imagination.
“I thought maybe the cats would just look at it, but they use it all,” Cohen says. “It’s like a freeway sometimes with them all over the place.”
His home office features a rope-wrapped pole for his cats to hop to adjacent platforms or descend a spiral walkway. In the master bedroom, cats can enter through a tunnel over the door and make their way up a couple of floating shelves to a loft area with cat beds beneath skylights. Even the bathrooms are outfitted with places his cats can safely play.
