Santa Barbara Events and Festivals: A Cornucopia of Fun

Santa Barbara has more to offer residents than the year-round sunshine, ocean views and laid-back luxury it’s known for. In fact, Santa Barbara events and festivals, as well as concerts and special events, offer fun for every interest and taste. It’s not surprising when you realize that this community is overflowing with culture, color, food and fun.
January 27 through February 7, 2015, the annual star-studded Santa Barbara International Film Festival takes center stage. Legendary actor Michael Keaton will receive the prestigious Modern Master Award for the 30^th anniversary edition of the fest. There’s Santa Barbara’s answer to Mardi Gras with the Old Spanish Days Fiesta, where the entire town reverts back to its Spanish roots for five consecutive, action-packed and food-filled days. Other Signature events in town include Harbor & Seafood Festival, Vintners’ Festival, epicure.sb: a month to savor Santa Barbara, Earth Day Festival and more.
One of my favorite events is more like a magical spectacle as over a thousand costumed participants dance, drum and twirl up State Street to Alameda Park during the wacky, whimsical Summer Solstice Parade. The mid-June event is the largest, single-day arts event in Santa Barbara, drawing crowds of over 100,000 spectators from around the world.
Then there’s the live music that fills the air at the Santa Barbara Bowl from spring to fall. You won’t want to miss seeing local artisans and their works at arts and crafts shows every Sunday and 1st Thursday of the month. There’s also numerous Farmers markets, writing conferences, art exhibits, theater performances, lectures and more.
