Exciting events at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History

santa barbara museum of natural historyIn a previous blog, I introduced the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. This special museum is the site and center of quite a few wonderful events throughout the year. Here are 3:
Santa Barbara Wine Festival
This event – happening on June 25th from 2-5 pm — is your chance to mingle with winemakers, bakers, and chefs in the beautiful Santa Barbara sunshine and the shade of some great oak trees along the banks of Mission Creek. Guests will enjoy the best of Central Coast Wines and try their luck in the Every Cork Wins! raffle.
I recommend you buy tickets to the VIP Lounge. For museum members the cost is $125; non-members $150. This includes:

  • 1 hour early access to the Wine Festival
  • Private lounge
  • Paul Lato Wines and Cold Heaven Cellars
  • Chef Pete Clements Savory Bites
  • Sparkling Wine
  • Sommelier Lenka Reynolds
  • and more!
General admission is $75 for members and $100 for the general public. This includes local food booths, 3 full hours of wine tasting offered by 100 wineries, and a commemorative crystal tasting glass. Proceeds benefit Museum exhibits and education programs. Attendees must be 21 years of age. General admission is $75 for members and $100 for the general public. This includes local food booths, 3 full hours of wine tasting offered by 100 wineries, and a commemorative crystal tasting glass. Free Parking is available in 3 off-site locations, and a shuttle is running from 1:00 to 5:30 pm. Designated drivers are admitted free. They just have to be accompanying a paid guest. Designated drivers can sign up by emailing Sarah at sclement@sbnature2.org and giving the names of their passengers.

Butterflies Alive!
There are two other events at the Museum perfect for the children in your life.
Beginning May 21, visitors are invited to experience the magic of walking through a beautiful garden filled with flowers, luscious greenery, and more than 1,000 free-flying butterflies.  Bring your family, friends and cameras! A Butterfly Sponsorship is a great way to support one of our most beloved exhibits, ensuring that the butterflies have a healthy environment as well as plenty of flowers and fruit for nectar collecting. Sponsorships also make great gifts for friends and loved ones! For more information on sponsoring a butterfly, call 805-682-4711 ext. 110 or email sclement@sbnature2.org.
T. Rex named SUE
Bring the kids to see a T. Rex named SUE, arriving May 28 and is the largest, most complete, and best-preserved Tyrannosaurus rex ever discovered, SUE. At a heart stopping 42 feet (12.8 m) long and 12 feet (3.66 m) high at the hip, a spectacular full-sized skeleton cast of SUE is the centerpiece of this exciting exhibition.
