Target rolls out healthy in store cafes

Rainbow heart of fruits and vegetables to show how target has introduced in store healthy cafes In a recent blog, I shared with you some surprising information about the shopping habits of wealthy consumers, uncovering where millionaires love to shop: at discount chain stores like Target. That info was the result of a new survey from a wealth management news site called Millionaire Corner. Today, I am happy to report the big chain retailer is rolling out healthy cafes as an alternative to hot dogs and nachos.

The wealth management news site polled 1,200 investors, asking them where they like to shop. Target was one of the top retail destinations for respondents with a net worth of $5 million or higher. Now there’s even more reason for the wealthy to shop at Target, especially for those who are health conscious. Target has decided to start phasing out the hot dogs and nachos, according to USA Today. The retailer will start testing out three brand-name cafés in 14 test markets: Freshii, D’Amico & Sons, and an “artisan” version of Pizza Hut.

The move to offer healthy fare inside Target’s new cafes are designed to appeal to Target’s customer base, which is more affluent than a typical big-box shopper. Studies show that higher-end customers want organic, specialty items. Amazingly, 40% of Target customers typically frequent the current café while shopping. The goal of the new café is to keep people in the store shopping for a longer amount of time.

“We think this takes us a giant step in the direction of making a much better first impression,” explained Tina Tyler, Target’s chief stores officer.

I hope Target’s new healthy cafés inspire other retailers to offer similar alternatives to shoppers.
